Dr. Schumacher, Professor and Director of Hematology, graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and completed his internship and residency at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, VA and Philadelphia, PA. He completed a hematology fellowship at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, Oncology, and Pathologic Hematology. He received the meritovious service medal from President Reagan in 1986 for development of a fellowship in hematopathology and research in hematology laboratories. He is the author of over 200 articles, letters and abstracts. Dr. Shumacher has also authored 4 books, primarily in the area of leukemia. He has lectured continuously on a national level and has lectured abroad. He serves on the editorial board of Hematologic Pathology and is an invited reviewer of American Journal of Clinical Pathology and Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. His subspecialty interests include leukemia, minimal residual disease, Tdt, and leukemic retroviruses.
