Research Interests: Automated bone marrow analysis, Genetics of hematological malignancies.

Dr. Alvares is a medical graduate of Bombay University, India, where she also did a three-year Pathology residency. She completed a three-year accredited fellowship in Clinical Cytogenetics at the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She completed a Pathology residency at the UMDNJ Robert Wood Johnson University, New Jersey and subsequently did two years of Hematopatholgy fellowship training at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio. She is currently Board Certified in anatomic and clinical Pathology and is a Diplomat of the American Board of Pathology, and is Board Eligible in Hematopathology. She is also Board Eligible in Clinical Cytogenetics, and has passed the cytogenetics part of the American Board of Genetics exam. Dr. Alvares is an active member of the hematopathology and surgical pathology diagnostic service. She also teaches pathology residents, medical students and heme-onc and pathology fellows. She is an invited reviewer of Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
