Application Process

Each year the Department of Pathology has openings for PGY-1 residents. PGY-1 positions are filled through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP).

Applicants are strongly encouraged to complete their application in fall prior to graduation for the following July starting date. Applicants must submit all documentation through ERAS, Electronic Residency Application Service. These documents include: an official transcript, USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 scores, dean's letter and two letters of recommendation from faculty members. Your ERAS application must be completed and available by December 1, 2007.

The Department prefers USMLE scores of 85 or better. If you are a foreign medical school graduate, you must be ECFMG certified including the clinical skills exam. You must have graduated from medical school within the past 6 years. Our residency program sponsors J-1 visas.

Once your application file is complete, the residency selection committee will review your file and if appropriate, issue an invitation to interview with our department. We feel that interviews are extremely important so that we can get to know the applicants and so they can have a chance to become better acquainted with our program, staff and facilities.

As a candidate, your interview will begin with you attending the morning resident conference. The rest of the day may include interviews with several faculty members and then lunch with the Department residents.

All inquiries about the training program should be directed to:
